Wholesale Dog Toys

Writen by Josh Riverside

Your pet dog probably gets bored easily and needs dog toys to pass the time away. Instead of letting the "the little darling" rip the throw pillows you have on the couch or nibble on the furniture, buy lots of dog toys instead. The market provides a myriad of dog toy options to choose from. Wholesale dog toys vary in kinds, product line, shapes and sizes, and your dog will love them all!

Dogs are like children – they play a lot! They always expect you or your children to play with them as well. If you cannot fully attend to your pets all of the time, then give them quality dog toys.

Buying dog toys at wholesale prices gives huge discounts and a whole lot of toys. If you buy dog toys in bulk and stock your dog will never run out of playthings. Purchasing dog toys in large volumes will enable you to share some of the toys to the pets of your relatives and friends. They do make great gifts.

If your pet dog is an expert at destroying dog toys, keeping a stock will save you the worry of buying a toy every time you turn around. A dog with no toys will surely turn its attention back to your expensive shoes, slippers, bags, and furniture.

You should also buy wholesale dog toys if your pet is teething. Chewing and nipping is one of their unstoppable addictions. There are great, top-notch and durable dog toys that you can purchase at wholesale prices. If you want a breakdown of the wholesale price of dog toys, you can start your search online.

Take your pick from a line of hard and soft rubber balls, dental health toys, rope, fetch toys, talking toys, rubber rings, puffy and furry dog toys. Whether they are stuffed or made up of latex, vinyl, nylon, or rubber, what matters most is their durability and safety.

Dog Lover Gifts

Writen by Adriana Copaceanu

Whether you are searching for something to say "Happy Birthday" or "Merry Christmas" a dog owner will agree that dog lover gifts are always among those most cherished and appreciated.

Many times, a dog lover's gift is designed with a specific breed in mind; among the various popular breeds owned include the following:

Beagles
Boston Terriers
Chihuahuas
Bulldogs
Jack Russell Terriers
Pugs
Golden Retrievers
Poodles
Dachshunds
Shih-Tzu

The type of dog an owner has often is a reflection of their personality; thus it shouldn't be too difficult selecting a dog lover gift that is well suited for Fido and Fido's parents.

Many owners are fans of the smaller breeds, often referred to as "toy" dogs. Among these include Pomeranians, Shih-Tzu and toy poodles. These animals are often purebreds, and owners traditionally love showing off their animals to anyone willing to admire. These dogs often are "stereotyped" in movies, hiding out in the purses of "well bred" women who are polished, coiffed and manicured. These small animals often are depicted as enjoying a trip to the salon with mom for a brush and trim. Smaller breeds of dogs are often the perfect selection for families living in smaller apartments. Some dogs are even smaller than popular breeds of cats! The Yorkshire terrier is a perfect example of a pup small enough to fit in the palm of your hand!

Many owners of specialized breeds enter their pups into competition. Many hours are spent grooming, fluffing and primping the animals for show; thus dog lover gifts might include any accessories that help complement their dog's unique features or characteristics. Undoubtedly upon entering the house of one of these award winning animals, you will find ribbons and hundreds of pictures of the stunning champion. The ideal dog lover gifts for people owning a prize dog would be anything that highlights and helps show off puppies stunning nature and well behaved personality. Clothing and picture frames are often popular choices for this category of dog.

Still other dogs are cherished for their warm, loving personalities and "family" natures. Golden Retrievers for example, are a popular choice among families with children. These animals are generally high energy but very well behaved, making them the perfect selection for a family with many young, energetic and playful children. For these, toys woudl be very well received, as the kids can play with them, while enjoying their pet.

Yorkshire Terrier Breeding

Writen by Elizabeth Morgan

A Yorkshire terrier, or Yorkie, is known as a toy dog, meaning it is very small and lightweight. The breed hails from the town of Yorkshire, from which it got its name. Unfortunately, the Yorkshire terrier population has been in decline. In response to this, the number of people breeding Yorkshire terriers has increased. There are two aspects of Yorkshire terrier breeding: the actual breeding of puppies, and training them to learn new tricks.

Both aspects are on the rise these days, people who have Yorkies want them to look and act their best. Nowadays there are many people who work as professional breeders for these Yorkies, and help newcomers learn the business. They tell them how to go in for the breeding, and what steps and precautions must be taken. They provide their full support and monitoring while the Yorkshire terrier breeding process is underway.

Teaching Yorkies how to do tricks makes the dogs much more playful. The market is flooded with professional breeders who teach new tricks to your dog and can make it a center of attraction.

They not only teach them various acts but also make them fit and healthy. Yorkshire terrier breeding is a popular profession, since Yorkie owners often wish to breed their pets and teach them tricks. So if you are the proud owner of a Yorkshire terrier and want to make your dog look its best, hire the services of a good Yorkshire terrier breeder, and give your dog a new life.

Clicker Training Basic Commands Down Command

Writen by Peter Tyler

Now that you've achieved a reliable "sit", its time to start on the "down" command.

Clicker Training - "Down" Command

Now, this won't be quite as easy as sit, but have patience it will come!

A good, solid "down" command is a really important thing for dogs to learn - think about when you're out on a walk and he sees a cat something equally as enticing. Imagine if, when he started racing over to whatever it is, you shouted "DOWN", and he actually stopped in his tracks and lay down. It really is one of the most important commands that we can teach. (It's also the start move for lots of fun tricks that we can try later!!)

Put your dog in the sit position and crouch in front of him, leaving enough space between you for him to lie down. Let him know that you have a treat, put it in front of his nose and move it slowly towards the floor. If you move it too fast, he'll stand up, so have patience! He may try to get the treat out of your hand, but don't let him have it yet!!

As you move the treat down, he should follow it with his nose.

When the treat and his nose are on the floor, move it slowly (remember, slowly, or he'll try to stand up!!) away from him, towards you.

Although he may not lie down at this stage, he should be clicked and treated for lowering his body, which should happen naturally when he follows the treat with his nose, whilst in the sit position.

As with the sit, we need to build this behaviour up. Become more selective with clicking and treating, waiting until his body is much closer to the floor, and eventually only clicking when he is lying down.

When he is lying down with reasonable regularity, we should introduce the command "down" *. As with the sit, we need to build up to only clicking and treating when he lies down on the verbal command.

*NOTE: I do not use my dog's name before giving the "down" command. I give this command firmly and quickly and expect an instant response. Don't use "lie down", as this takes longer to say and can't be said with the same urgency as "down".

Continue to train the "down" command, whilst standing up instead of crouching, like we were at the beginning of the training.

When you first started training the "down" command, you were putting him in the "sit" position first. You should move on to practicing the command "down" without first asking him to sit. He may be confused at first because it is different to how he first learned, but persevere and he will work it out!

A good training exercise when he is lying down reliably, is to train him with the clicker, but only click when he lies down very quickly. This should reinforce a stronger, quicker down.

You both deserve a pat on the back when he understands and follows the "down" command, so well done!!

Shih Tzu Should You Free Feed Or Feed By Meals

Writen by Connie Limon

It is medical fact that a dog's digestive system is designed more to gorge. For this one reason alone, I suggest feeding your shih tzu by "meals." If you leave food out all the time, and I have fed my shih tzu with free feeding, so I know about what they will do.....they will eat, and eat, eat....until they will become overweight and have soft, runny stools. Most of us just hate "runny stools." One way to avoid them is to not "free feed." You need to divide your shih tzu's food into meals. So how many meals should that be? Try feeding an adult shih tzu 3/4 cup to 1 cup of dry kibble "twice" per day. This would mean a morning meal and an evening meal. Some dog nutritionists even suggest just one meal per day. So you would divide your 3/4 cup or 1 cup of dry kibble into 1/2 cups for two meals.

Another good reason to feed your shih tzu in meals is that you will know exactly when the shih tzu slows down eating or stops eating, which is a sure warning sign, the shih tzu may be ill.

If you have more than one shih tzu or other pets in the house to feed, you minimize your pet's opportunities to guard his food. If there is always food in the bowl, your pets, or just one of them might decide to protect this valuable resource and the territory around, thus creating some behavior problems. If the food bowl is picked up when it's empty, the feeding area becomes neutral to all the pets in the household. Unless you have a "Duke" in the house. Duke believes all food bowls belong to him, all food belongs to him, all the girls belong to him, and that he should be a privileged shih tzu to be able to go through any door that is opened, etc., etc. Duke is a whole other story at Stain Glass Shih Tzu. Duke also walks with me by putting his head through my legs and actually walks along with me for a few minutes. I think he is saying to me: "I am right up there with you, I can even take the same steps as you take." I think Duke really, really admires me or something. And I sure do like Duke also. That is why I sort of play his games of him wanting to lead the show with me. I am not certain, however, that he truly realizes between he and I, that I am the actual leader. Then again, maybe he does. Duke is such a character. I have a lot of fun with Duke just watching him be himself. Visit us at Stain Glass Shih Tzu website to see what Duke looks like. Every now and then, you will have a shih tzu that is extra unique in some way. Duke is one of them.

You can take advantage of training your shih tzu about the higher-ranking member of your social group. You are not the "alpha dog." Your shih tzu knows you are not a dog. You are a member of his social group. You are the leader of the entire pack, whether your pack consists of you and 4 shih tzu or other pets, or whether your pack consists of just you and one shih tzu, you are the leader of your particular household pack. The leader controls the "good stuff." If the "good stuff" (the food) is available all the time, your dog controls it. If you, as the leader, choose to share some of your food with him out of the goodness of your heart, and he performs a deference behavior such as sit or down to get you to share, you're reinforcing a healthy relationship.

I had a comical experience with one of my pregnant moms lately. She was residing in the cottage, where she actually loves to stay. She never tries to go anywhere else. Since she has become pregnant I want her in the house so I can give her extra meals separate of the rest of the gang. The first night I tried this, she fought me like crazy as I picked her up to bring her in the main house. The next night, she hid under the cottage porch at the time she suspected I was going to bring her in. I had to let her dwell there for a couple of nights. I couldn't catch her in time. She outsmarted me on this and I imagine she was delighted she did. The next time I tried to catch her, I did it at a different time of day and caught her off guard (I outsmarted her). I brought her in and each time I would get her inside, I would take her straight to an extra bowl of food with something enticing added as well (I do this for my pregnant and nursing moms). Finally, she started just preferring to come in where I wanted her to be. Bianca thought she did not need me for anything. She is pregnant, but she thinks she has no use for me even in her pregnancy, until she figured out I was a hand that was feeding her. And not only that, I was giving her extra attention and extra feed, of which she could not get hid under porch. She is now convinced I am important to her, and cooperates as she should. Incidentally, Bianca is expecting babies by our famous Dukie Boy (Duke I talked about above). Bianca is the daughter of my Cindy. Cindy has a keen intelligence about her and many of her offpsring have been just like her. Bianca is one of them. Bianca's father was Bert (of whom I no longer have). Bert was a gorgeous silver/blue. The match of Bianca and Duke went so well the last time, I decided to mate them again. They both have the imperial/teacup genes in their background and they produced imperials and teacups, even though they themselves are the standard size shih tzu.

You can use their meals as a training method to suit your needs, that is, if you serve them meals, rather than to free feed.

You can also control their weight. If they look too skinney, increase the amount. If they look like they are getting too fat, decrease the food.

I favor feeding shih tzu in meals as you can tell from reading this article.

Training Your Cat To Walk On A Leash

Writen by Lee Dobbins

Can you train your cat to take walks with you on a leash outside just like a dog? Yes you can! Training cats, however is a whole different ball game from training dogs. With some Patience and persistence, however, you may have your finicky feline outdoors on a leash in no time.

The best time to start training is when your cat is a kitten, at this stage the cat doesn't have any programmed behaviors so you can try to mold him to what you want him to do. An older cat may be a bit more set in his ways and might require added patience for leash training.

One thing you will want to do is search out the leash that will be suitable for both you and your cat. There are many different leashes on the market to day. Some are retract able with a setting on the holder to be able to allow just enough leash out for the cat. On the other hand, you can just let the cat have as much as they would like. This is nice for walking and for letting the cat to play, with control that they do not run off or get in to much trouble.

Standard leashes are about 5 or 6 feet which should be fine. You want to get a leash that is lightweight - not one for a dog. Too much weight in the leash will make the cat uncomfortable and he won't want to go for walks. Another item that you will need to consider is a harness or collar for the cat. A harness is the best for a cat. With purchasing a collar you will want to make it very narrow one and light. When looking for a collar keep in mind that you don't want it too tight on the cat, but not too loose either as you don't want him to slip his head out. Cat's won't respond well to jerking their collar so a harness is really best and should be loose and comfortable for the cat.

Once you get the leash, collar, or harness, you will want to introduce the cat to the item by playing with him. This allows the cat to get use to it and put its scent on these items. Next you want to try to put the harness or collar on the cat. Put it on as loose as you can get it, just place it him and depending on his reaction you can leave it on for a short time or if the cat does not want anything to do with it, then you might have to revert back to the "playing" stage. This step is very important, if you force the cat to wear the harness, they are not going to be happy at all with the harness or with you. Take your time with all the steps.

After the cat is wearing the harness loose, then it is the time to tighten the harness up until it is the right fit for the cat. At this point, you will want to give the cat time to wear the harness. Next attach the leash. Remember first to have the cat play with the leash. Put the leash on and get the cat use to having it on. Then you will want to start walking the cat inside, until the cat is doing well. Once the cat is comfortable with the leash then it is time to go outside for a walk.

When walking with the cat make sure there is not too much loose leash or they will be running in all random directions. There are many distractions for a cat outdoors - birds, squirrels and the neighbors pets might cause your cat to want to run around, but you must keep a tight leash so that your cat walks with you and is not dragging you all over the place.
